It would lovely to see you if you can come along- it will be the same mix of activities around tables, singing some songs, drinking plenty of tea and coffee, reading the papers and eating the pastries.

The drinks will be ready to go from 10am so arrive anytime from then. The service starts at 1030ish, once we’ve all found a table and cuppa. But don’t worry if you are running late, we know the weekend is the only time in a busy world when you don’t have to rush everywhere.

After a month off in February we are pleased to say that breathe is back this month.

Our thoughts will be focused on the season of Lent, a time when we remember Jesus being tested in the wilderness for forty days and forty nights as he prepared for what was next.  We will be using this story to reflect on how it can be a time for us to let go of things that distract us or get in the way of seeing, who we truly are and what we are called to do. Or put another way- the boxes we get stuck in or building around ourselves.

The time together will be its usual balance of image and music, simple songs and readings, silence and ritual.

It all begins at 7.30pm in St Ives Methodist Church hall (so please use the side door). It will last around about an hour and if you have time we would love it if you could stay for coffee and cake afterwards.

Slide1Happy New Year!

We hope you had a lovely Christmas and are feeling upbeat about 2017 after the last year being full of unpredictable events.

In the midst of taking down the decorations and finishing the last bits of festive food, we would love it if you could join us for breathe this Sunday evening. Our theme this month is ‘Ladders’- not the physical ones but the ones we often reflected upon at the start of a new year- resolutions, changes, ideas, dreams, and hopes of who and what we might be in the future.

Our time together will have plenty of stillness and completion, images and ritual, simple songs and silence. It will be as ever a place to think and reflect on life and faith in a busy world.

We will be together for about an hour and if you can stay for a cuppa and some cake afterwards we would love for you stay (but no worries if not).

Take care and hope to see you soon,

Matt

We just wanted to let you know that it is breathe this Sunday evening and we would love to see you if you can make it.

Perhaps sure you are in the midst of Christmas busyness or worrying that you haven’t started! So why not use this be of space to be still and reflect this Sunday evening.

Our theme is ‘depth’ and we will explore together using music, video, ritual and silence what the simple story of a baby born in a stable, in a forgot town mean for us today as those who ponder the question of faith and what it is to be human in a complicated world.

It all begins at 7.30pm inSt Ives Methodist church hall, it will last about an hour and if you can stay for a drink and some cake afterwards it would be great to have a chat.

We hope to see you but if not then have a great Christmas and we will see you in the New Year!

Every blessing.

Matt and the breathe team.

It is breathe this Sunday at St Ives Methodist Church and we would love to see you if you can make it.

In a world where we are bombarded by ‘things’ to buy and marketed the next ‘must have’ product, we will reflect on what we actually ‘need’. Drawing inspiration for the natural world with its Autumn and winter colour we will ask what we require, not simply desire, to be who we are.

There will be videos, images, simple rituals and chants, times of silence and readings from the Bible. Our time together will last about an hour and if you have time at the end please stay for a drink and some cake!

We meet in the hall of the church so please use the side door to find us and we begin at 7.30pm.

Hope to see you if not we hope you have a good weekend.

If you have not been before, cafe is great time together, sat round tables with familiar and new faces, activities to do (this month there is plenty of play dough), time to be still, songs to sing (if you fancy it), thinking about life and life, newspapers to read, tea and coffee flowing until it runs out. It lasts about an hour and plenty of space to chat afterwards.
The drinks, pastries, fruit and newspapers are ready from 10am so join us anytime from then. The service begins at 10.30am but don’t worry if you are running late you are probably not the only one and we know life gets busy.
Take care and be in touch if we can help.

We hope you are enjoying the Autumn sunshine and a moment to reflect on the beauty of the changing seasons.

If you are wanting or need a bit more space to consider life then it would be great to see you this Sunday evening for breathe. It all begins at 7.30pm in the hall at the back of St Ives Methodist Church- it will be space filled with stillness, creativity, image and words, silence and some simple music.

Our theme this month is ‘cup’. We will explore and reflect on our lives as a cup- full of a mixture of sorrow and joy, potential and successes, uncertainty and doubt, blessings and love. It will be a time to think about those who we drink with and those who are close to us. A time to consider the place of faith in the complexity of life and the journey we have each walked to this point.

It would be lovely to see you if you can make it. The service lasts about an hour and there is drinks and cake afterwards if you can stay (but we understand that you might need to get off straightway).

11th September breathe

We hope you have had a good summer and you managed to enjoy a few moments of rest in the sunshine.
Now things are settling into a normal pattern of work and school, so too is St Ives Methodist and it begins with breathe this Sunday evening at 7.30pm and we would love to see you if you can make it.
Our theme this month is ‘beyond’. Inspired by the monks who set sail from the shore of Iona to see what lay beyond the horizon we will reflect on what is beyond. Beyond what we take for granted and beyond the eat, sleep, repeat of our lives and how does faith help us find that.
As ever breathe will be a mix of ritual and simple chants, some video and music, silence and contemplation. It is a space for busy people, of some faith and none, all question and seeking simple truths in a complicated world .
Our time together will last about an hour and of course it is followed by cake, drinks and a chat if you can a few minutes. But no worries if you need to shoot off straightaway.
Hope you see soon but if not then let us know if we can help with anything.

10th July breathe CHANGE OF TIME AND VENUE

We have a change of time and venue for breathe this month. After a wonderful time last year, we are returning to Holt Island (a nature reserve opposite the church) for a summer evening of contemplation and reflection- listening to the birds singing and being cut off from the busyness of the world for just a while. And so we don’t get too cold once the sun starts going down we will begin at 6.30pm not our usual 7.30pm.
The theme we will explore together is ‘dependence’. Holt Island is an ecosystem full of things small and big, diverse and beautiful, seen and unseen that depend on each other for life. As we gather in this space we will reflect on what and who we dependent, little and large, obvious and hidden things that enable us to be. It is a simpler stripped down breathe as we can’t take a computer and projector- but there will still be the simple chants, readings from the bible, silence, ritual and of course cake!
The map below shows you where the island is if you haven’t been before.

Holt_Island_Map

You can access the island via a small bridge which you can get to via the Parish church grounds and you will find breathe setup in the middle of the island please follow the signs that we will have put up. You can see the Island website http://www.stives-town.info/locations/detail.asp?GetLocID=510
Please bring a camping chair (or two) if you can but no worries if not we will make sure that there are some spares. Maybe a blanket incase it drops cold and a hat might help keep the bugs away!
It is our last breathe before we have a break in August so it will be lovely to see you if you can make it.

A chance to talk about the EU referendum result

As we are all aware the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union on Thursday. This is a result celebrated by some and a cause of great pain to others. And without question we now face times of uncertainty and momentous change.

As a church we want to help each other and our community at this time. Now, when there is much talk of division in our country, we are offering a place, at St Ives Methodist Church, to listen and talk honestly,  to reach out to each other in our differences and seeking the best way forward together.  Already there have been people in this town from Europe expressing their worries about their future and we all condemn the expressions of racism we are seeing in the news. It is our hope that this gathering will begin the process of look ahead in unity.

So, we invite you to come along to the church on Wednesday evening at 7.30pm. We will have time to talk together about recent events, pray for our country and consider how we can remain a place of welcome to all? A place of healing to those so upset? A place of calm in amongst frightening headlines? And best reach out to those fearful what this means about the future?
