It is breathe this Sunday at St Ives Methodist Church and we would love to see you if you can make it.

In a world where we are bombarded by ‘things’ to buy and marketed the next ‘must have’ product, we will reflect on what we actually ‘need’. Drawing inspiration for the natural world with its Autumn and winter colour we will ask what we require, not simply desire, to be who we are.

There will be videos, images, simple rituals and chants, times of silence and readings from the Bible. Our time together will last about an hour and if you have time at the end please stay for a drink and some cake!

We meet in the hall of the church so please use the side door to find us and we begin at 7.30pm.

Hope to see you if not we hope you have a good weekend.

We hope you are enjoying the Autumn sunshine and a moment to reflect on the beauty of the changing seasons.

If you are wanting or need a bit more space to consider life then it would be great to see you this Sunday evening for breathe. It all begins at 7.30pm in the hall at the back of St Ives Methodist Church- it will be space filled with stillness, creativity, image and words, silence and some simple music.

Our theme this month is ‘cup’. We will explore and reflect on our lives as a cup- full of a mixture of sorrow and joy, potential and successes, uncertainty and doubt, blessings and love. It will be a time to think about those who we drink with and those who are close to us. A time to consider the place of faith in the complexity of life and the journey we have each walked to this point.

It would be lovely to see you if you can make it. The service lasts about an hour and there is drinks and cake afterwards if you can stay (but we understand that you might need to get off straightway).

We hope you have had a good summer and you managed to enjoy a few moments of rest in the sunshine.
Now things are settling into a normal pattern of work and school, so too is St Ives Methodist and it begins with breathe this Sunday evening at 7.30pm and we would love to see you if you can make it.
Our theme this month is ‘beyond’. Inspired by the monks who set sail from the shore of Iona to see what lay beyond the horizon we will reflect on what is beyond. Beyond what we take for granted and beyond the eat, sleep, repeat of our lives and how does faith help us find that.
As ever breathe will be a mix of ritual and simple chants, some video and music, silence and contemplation. It is a space for busy people, of some faith and none, all question and seeking simple truths in a complicated world .
Our time together will last about an hour and of course it is followed by cake, drinks and a chat if you can a few minutes. But no worries if you need to shoot off straightaway.
Hope you see soon but if not then let us know if we can help with anything.

10th July breathe CHANGE OF TIME AND VENUE

We have a change of time and venue for breathe this month. After a wonderful time last year, we are returning to Holt Island (a nature reserve opposite the church) for a summer evening of contemplation and reflection- listening to the birds singing and being cut off from the busyness of the world for just a while. And so we don’t get too cold once the sun starts going down we will begin at 6.30pm not our usual 7.30pm.
The theme we will explore together is ‘dependence’. Holt Island is an ecosystem full of things small and big, diverse and beautiful, seen and unseen that depend on each other for life. As we gather in this space we will reflect on what and who we dependent, little and large, obvious and hidden things that enable us to be. It is a simpler stripped down breathe as we can’t take a computer and projector- but there will still be the simple chants, readings from the bible, silence, ritual and of course cake!
The map below shows you where the island is if you haven’t been before.

Holt_Island_Map

You can access the island via a small bridge which you can get to via the Parish church grounds and you will find breathe setup in the middle of the island please follow the signs that we will have put up. You can see the Island website http://www.stives-town.info/locations/detail.asp?GetLocID=510
Please bring a camping chair (or two) if you can but no worries if not we will make sure that there are some spares. Maybe a blanket incase it drops cold and a hat might help keep the bugs away!
It is our last breathe before we have a break in August so it will be lovely to see you if you can make it.

12th June breathe

Slide1breathe is back this Sunday evening at St Ives Methodist church.

This month’s theme is ‘freedom’ a nice word but hard to make sense of in reality. Reflecting on what it is that holds us back, how can we live freely even in the midst of life’s pressures and busyness.

If you have not been to breathe before it is a reflective place for people of faith, those who are searching and those who just need to think for a while. Our time together is a creative one that uses image, video, music and simple songs, silence and scripture to listen to ourselves and God.

It would be lovely to see you if you can make it and if you can stay after for cake and a cuppa it would be great to chat.

If you have not been to breathe before, please use our car park at the back and the side door to enter as it make finding the hall easy.

Take care,

Matt and the breathe team.

We wanted to let you know that the breathe is happening this Sunday evening from 7.30pm in the hall at St Ives Methodist Church.
This month Anthony who has been involved in the planning every breathe we have held will be leading us through. The theme he will be helping us explore is ‘today’- how can we be mindful of the now. Can we cherish it, love it and value it rather than wishing it was yesterday or hoping it is better tomorrow. Our time together will be the useful places of quiet and still, gentle music and reflective images, candle lighting and silence to listen to ourselves and God.
It would be lovely to see you if you can make it and of course stay behind for a drink and some cake afterwards.

phos

We just wanted to let you know that breathe WON’T be happening this month because of the half-term holiday.
Sorry not to hold it but with such a small team putting it together it would have been a struggle to make it as good as we want it to be.
But don’t worry we will be back next month and look forward to seeing you then.
In the meantime if you are looking for a bit of reflective space with reading and Taize chants then ‘release’ is held every 3rd Sunday evening at 6pm in the main church.

Take care and be in touch if you think we can help!

We hope you have had a good Christmas and that the New Year is unfolding as you would want it to.
We just wanted to let you know that it is breathe this coming Sunday at 7.30pm in St Ives Meths hall. If you are anything like us you might be in need of a little bit of space to reflect and contemplate the year that is already unfolding.
Out theme this month builds on our last couple breathes about ‘ancient’ and ‘modern’ as will be thinking about ‘future’. What will faith be for us as we travel through 2016 with all its ups and downs, challenges and surprises? We all have different and varied feelings about what is to come but the faith we are exploring will be as real as it has been and gifts for us all.
As ever breathe will explore this using image and video, silence and music, stillness and ritual. They is no pressure to do any of it, if all you need to do is be still and quiet for an hour then that is fine.
We would love to see you if you can make it and if you can stay afterwards for something to drink and eat that would be great too.

8th November breathe

It is breathe this Sunday evening in the hall starting at 7.30pm.

Our time together will have plenty of time to think, silence to contemplate, rituals to guide us, scripture readings and simple chant. Our theme begins a series of three breathe services over the next three months  ‘ancient’, ’modern’ and ’future’.  This month we will reflect upon the ancient faith that has made its way to us over the centuries- how it began long ago and has it transformed others through its journey to us.
Amazingly, one of our elements this month will be the loan of some ancient Roman and pre-historic items from the Norris Museum which we will use to reflect upon our place in an old old story.
breathe lasts about an hour and there will be plenty of drinks and cake at the end if you are able to stay afterwards for a few minutes.

11th October breathe: Control

It was great to be back together for breathe last month with the space it give us to contemplate life and faith away from pressure for just a moment in the hope we will see things a little more clearly. It would be lovely if you would like to join us this Sunday evening.
We will be reflecting on the idea of ‘control’- what controls us? what do we control? are we in control? And what does faith offer us by way of help to be controlled? The idea might seem a little complicated but through silence, simple chants, moments of ritual, video and image we will explore what this might mean for ourselves as individuals, the people we love and for the communities we are a part of.
Our time together will start at 7.30pm in the hall at the back of the church (so please use the side entrance). It will last for about an hour and there will be tea, coffee and cake at the end if you can stay for a while but no worries if you need to head of quickly.
