15th July Cafe Church

Hi Everyone,

We just wanted to let you know that it is café church this Sunday and we would love to see you before we break up for summer.

Thanks to the amazing hard work of the contractors our new heating system is nearly finished so we are back in the church as normal.

The service will be the mix of chatting round tables, activities together, the band will lead us in some songs, some thoughts about life and faith and of course tea and coffee, pastries and papers.

We start serving from 10am so join us anytime from then.  The service begins at 10.30am but don’t worry if you are running late it doesn’t matter no one will notice and the coffee will be waiting!

Take care and hope to see you but if not enjoy the sunshine wherever you are.

We are pleased to say that breathe is back for another reflective and contemplative time but this time in a different place.

Seeing as the weather and after a wonderful time last year, we are returning to Holt Island (a nature reserve opposite the church) for a summer evening of contemplation and reflection- listening to the birds and being cut off from the busyness of the world for just a while.

Holt_Island_Map

The theme we will explore together is ‘tend’. On the island, there is a balance of wild unkept areas to encourage wildlife and tended of paths and grass that means it can be managed and tended. We will be reflecting on the wild and the tended parts of our lives, considering what needs control and what needs to be allowed to be wild once more.

It will be a simpler stripped down breathe as we can’t take a computer and projector- but there will still be the simple chants, walking round the island (if you are able), readings from the Bible, silence, ritual and of course cake!

You can access the island via a small bridge which you can get to via the Parish church grounds and you will find breathe setup in the middle of the island please follow the signs that we will have put up. You can see the Island website http://www.stives-town.info/locations/detail.asp?GetLocID=510

Please bring a camping chair (or two) if you can but no worries if not we will make sure that there are some spares. Maybe a blanket in case it drops cold and a hat might help keep the bugs away!

It is our last breathe before we have a break in August so it will be lovely to see you if you can make it.

 Matt and the breathe team.

15th June cafe church flyerWe are pleased to let you know that it is café church this weekend at St Ives Methodist Church and we’d love to see you if you’re not busy elsewhere.

It will be the same chatting round tables, tea and coffee, fresh pastries and activities to do around the tables. The one BIG difference, however, is that it is in the hall at the back of the church because the main church is out of action while we have the new heating system fitted. So forgive us now for it being a little bit more squashed than normal or laid out a bit differently.

It all begins at 10.30 but join us anytime from 10am when the drinks and pastries will be ready.

We wanted to let you know that it is breathe this weekend.

The breathe team know how important it is to find space to reflect and be still in our complex busy lives so it would great if you would like to join us. We will be exploring the vastness of the world and our place within it. It is easy to feel insignificant, unnoticed or unimportant in our global internet society yet this is not the case for we are precious and unique with a part to play in the vast world we inhabit.

Our time will be spent in stillness and quiet, simple songs and readings from the bible, videos and music, rituals and image. If you have not been before it all takes place in the hall at the back of St Ives Methodist church so please use the side entrance. It will last about an hour and there arerefreshments at the end if you would like stay but understand that you might need to get straight off.

As well as breathe happening this month over the weekend of 15-17th June we have a 24/7 Prayer Room. We have divided the time into hour slots for people to take time to pray and reflect about the things on their hearts. It is an amazing creative space, a bit like a mini breathe all to yourself with loads of prayer stations and activities and just stillness to be. You can get an idea of what it will look like here https://bit.ly/2M8KMGm  If you would like to sign up then please email prayer@simc.co.uk to find out what spaces are left on the rota.

It is breathe this weekend and we would love to see you if you can make it.

This month’s gathering will explore the idea of ‘ascend’. In a world where many seek to better themselves or their career, seek new way or a different path, we will look at how we find God in the midst of our searching.

breathe begins at 7.30pm and will be the usual contemplative space to be still in a busy world. We will be using films and image, songs and silence, ritual and a story from the bible.

Our time together lasts about an hour and if you can stay afterwards (no worries if you can’t) there will be drinks and cake to eat if you can stay.

Any questions please email matt.finch@simc.co.uk

We just wanted to let you know its breathe this coming Sunday evening. If you are free we would love to see you.

The theme for contemplation this month is ‘ripple’. You may know that Easter was celebrated last Sunday and now comes a time of exploring what that means for us now. We are the latest ones, like many before us, to be touched by the ripple of life that began in the first Easter garden. We will spend time in stillness reflecting on what that means for us spiritually, mentally, physically and humanly.

Our time together will be a mix of silence and simple chants, ritual and images, video and readings from the bible.

It all begins at 7.30pm and lasts about an hour. There are some simple refreshments at the end if you are able to stay but we understand that you may need to leave straight away.

We hope to see you if you can make but if not we hope you are having a good time wherever you!

Take care,

Matt and the breathe team

180211 breathe flyer dust

Just to let you know that it is breathe this weekend and it would be lovely to see you if you can make it.

The theme is ‘dust’. As Ash Wednesday and Lent approach (the time when Jesus went into the wilderness) breathe will explore the idea of being created from dust and the breath of God that gives us life. We will contemplate the ways we are shaped and crafted into who we are.

The time together will be the usual mix of stillness and silence, image and video, simple music and ritual. And of course followed by tea, coffee and something to eat.

It all begins at 7.30pm in St Ives Methodist Church hall, so please come in via the side door.

We hope to see you but if we can’t then have a great time wherever you are.

Matt and the breathe team.
