19th Nov CafeWe just wanted to let you know that it is café church this Sunday. we can’t wait to welcome you with a fresh pastry and make you a cup of coffee.

The service begins at 10.30am but the drinks and food are ready from 10am so come anytime from then. As always, if you are running the late you probably won’t be last and the coffee will still be waiting!

The service will be a mix of talking and activities round tables, sing some songs (if you want to, not if you don’t), some moments of stillness and some reflections on the bible. It is also Shoebox Sunday this month so if you have put one together we will be collecting them in during the service- please don’t worry if you haven’t.

So hopefully, see you Sunday but if not have a great time whatever you up to.

If we can be of any help then let us know.

Matt and the café team.

171112 safe breathe flyer

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to let you know that it is breathe this Sunday evening and we would love to see you if you can make it.

At this time of year and being Remembrance Sunday there is plenty of talk about peacekeeping, protection, freedom and safety. So we thought a good theme to reflect on is ‘safe’-  what makes us feel safe? And can things intended for our safety actual that imprison us?

We will, of course, be contemplating this using image and video, music and silence, scripture readings and ritual.

It all begins at 7.30pm in St Ives Methodist Church hall and will last about an hour. If you have a chance to stop for a drink and a bit of cake afterward we would love to have a chat!

Take care and hopefully see you Sunday,

Matt and the breathe team

171008 breathe flyerWe just wanted to let you know that it is breathe this Sunday evening and we would, as always, love to see you.

Our theme this month is ‘secret’- but please don’t worry we won’t be asking you to tell us them- we know how personal they are. We will be contemplating the power secrets can hold over us, both negative and positive; passions and worldviews that drive us, hidden places of beauty only we know or fears and experiences we have never expressed to another. breathe will give us the space in which to consider their impact on our lives.

Our time will be a mixture of the usual chants and music, video and art, ritual and candlelight, silence and stillness. And there is of course cake and coffee to finish if you can stay afterward.

It all begins at 7.30pm and is in the hall of St Ives Methodist Church. It will last about an hour and feel free to sneak in if you are running late- we know how busy life can get.

9th July breathe (Please note change of venue

We are pleased to say that breathe is back for another reflective and contemplative time but this time in a different place.

Seeing as the weather and after a wonderful time last year, we are returning to Holt Island (a nature reserve opposite the church) for a summer evening of contemplation and reflection- listening to the birds and being cut off from the busyness of the world for just a while.

The theme we will explore together is ‘attention’. Reflecting first on the things that clamor for our attention and easily distract, we will then turn our thoughts to what parts of our lives need attention as we enter a time of slower paced life of summer.

It is a simpler stripped down breathe as we can’t take a computer and projector- but there will still be the simple chants, readings from the Bible, silence, ritual and of course cake!

You can access the island via a small bridge which you can get to via the Parish church grounds and you will find breathe setup in the middle of the island please follow the signs that we will have put up. You can see the Island website

Please bring a camping chair (or two) if you can but no worries if not we will make sure that there are some spares. Maybe a blanket in case it drops cold and a hat might help keep the bugs away!

It is our last breathe before we have a break in August so it will be lovely to see you if you can make it.

14th May breathe

breathe is happening again this month and we would love to see you if you can make it.

As we were planning this month we realised that the world seems an angry place right now. Be it people and places, general elections and nations at war. And perhaps, if we are honest, in our own lives there is anger.

In our time together we will explore the idea of anger and how it could be constructive. In the quiet, we will reflect on the things that trigger it in us and others, and how faith informs our engaging with our world.

As ever, there will be silence and stillness, chants and ritual, image and film to help us listen to ourselves and God.

It will last around about an hour and if you have time we would love to have a chat over a tea or coffee and cake!

We begin at 7.30pm and it all takes place in the hall at St Ives Methodist Church so please use the side door to get it.

Take care,

Matt and the breathe team

Easter Day Cafe Church

Slide1It is with great excitement that we let you know about this months cafe service which is also Easter Day. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to think about and celebrate the most important Sunday for the church.

We would love to see you if you can make it (in amongst the chocolate egg eating). It will still be cafe church as usual with all the coffee and pastries, the activities and the talking and the exploring of what faith means today.

Being Easter Day there are a couple of bits of information it is worth you knowing as you might want to take part.

Firstly, we have an early morning communion at 8.30am if you would like to join us, this is followed by breakfast together. Just let us know if you would so we can make sure there is enough.

Secondly, as part Easter celebrations we will be decorating a cross with flowers which we then put outside the church. There is no pressure but if you fancy brings a few flowers to place on the cross that would be lovely.

So, we hope to see you but if not have a restful and life-giving Easter weekend.
